it's a great book. It has greatly helped me start to ...

If you can get past his tone (he can come across as a bit arrogant and belligerent), it's a great book. It has greatly helped me start to shape up with my financial habits. You get some tough love from him and some good laughs. (I dunno why he makes me laugh, but I cracked up reading the book :). The book is also an easier read than I had originally thought. It didn't bore me to death, as I originally thought it would. A word to non-religious folk or those turned off by works peppered with religious dictum: do not be dissuaded from reading his material. Though he does weave into his writing biblical principals in which he believes, he's not preaching at you. He's sharing his knowledge and understanding and words of wisdom that have been around for ages. Bottom line: I unreservedly recommend for those seeking to make a real change in their lives financially. What he proposes is simple, but it will greatly challenge you; and I have to say it's so worth it. I have already paid off debt in the double digits in less than six months' time by putting stuff I learned from him into practice. I gotta tell you it's hard, but it'll really get you to another level. I read the book cover to cover and feel this book is a must have for everyone. I've found it so valuable that it's become my gift of choice as of late to friends and family. Give it a go. I'd be hard-pressed to believe you'd regret it.

Relevant for anyone ready to clean up their debt mess

A no nonsense look at how to manage finances. Its eye opening...maybe a little too much in some cases. If you listen to Dave on the radio then this book will seem low key. The steps are easy to follow. In fact they are almost too easy its tempting to over complicate them. I like the personal stories of families who made the commitment to a debt free life (now or eventually!)

If your ready to clean up "the mess" then this is a perfect starting place. I've read a number of finance guides as we work to clean up our debt and I wished I had discovered this years ago. I can also see that this is a book I'll come back to as I progress through the baby steps. For example, when I'm ready to really start investing in retirement. Before I read this book, retirement seemed like a dream. But now, with Ramsey's plan, I can see how this too will be in our future.

Saved my life

This book isn't for everyone obviously. But for me, a recovering "chronic consumer", this was what I needed in order to change the course of my life, and it did.

I can't say enough good things about this book. The examples that he presents are inspiring, witty, and matter of fact. Since reading this book about 3 years ago, about 6 months before I married my wife, we have paid off about $XX,000 in credit card, student loan, car loan, and medical bill debt. We have more money than ever in the bank in case of emergency and peace of mind that is worth a lot more. I'm going to be starting graduate school soon and from the looks of it, I'll graduate debt-free with a Master's degree. We haven't used a credit card for 3 years. Some people are stunned when they find out we don't have credit cards. They ask "but what about emergencies?" We no longer spend more than we make.

I can't read the future, but if I don't fall into my old ways (and it's been 3 years so far), my family and future family have changed their fates.

If you have unlimited self-control (be honest), enjoy gambling with your family's future, and think you're the exception to the trend of the average American consumer, then this is not the book for you.

If you have a weak spot for over-spending and are man/woman enough to admit it, want to enjoy a low-risk 99.5% sure way of living a comfortable life, and you if don't mind a bit of hard work and the occasional bible verse, then get this book.

Lonely Planet's Cuba Travel Guide was wonderful. The two guys who wrote this guide and their adventurous Cuban driver were outstanding. There were two books about Cuba that were invaluable to me in traveling and trying to understand a little about this fascinating country. One was Julia Zweig's book, "What everyone should know about Cuba" and Lonely Planet. Two examples: Lonely Planet's description of Cuba as "A Prince in Tattered Clothing" couldn't have been more accurate. But what I found both amusing and impressive was the accurate detail about this quickly changing country. There is a hotel in Cienfuegos that Lonely Planet mentioned that had tennis courts but no fence to stop the balls from rolling away as far as their momentum would take them. Good but somewhat lacking in detailed historical information about places and buildings (including hotels). Okay map but could use more and larger foldout maps. Changes are occurring rapidly and outrunning any annual publication.

Initially before I left I was pretty happy with this book

Initially before I left I was pretty happy with this book, however when put into practice it was useless. Simple information was missing, for example, under "Money Matters" it would have been nice to know that only Visa cards can be used in ATMs, but if you only have a mastercard you can get money out in a bank. This is not new and pretty important information.

A classic tennis book on tennis physics

This is a very readable book which will appeal to tennis aficionados who want to understand the "why's" of tennis. It is not really a "how to do it" sort of book.
Sections in the book explain the physics of tennis strings and the tennis racket frame itself, as well as the physics of tennis strokes (e.g., why certain types of shots are more likely to go out or into the net).
Some of the subject matter has since been explored in greater detail by the online tennis community, but this book nevertheless remains very informative and relevant to tennis players and coaches who like to tinker with their equipment and their game.

Finally, tennis facts.

There is so much misinformation in tennis! This book sorts through all the hype and confusion and gives true information on what makes a tennis ball go. From rackets to strings to strokes, this book shows what is important and what is not. For instance, why is it so hard to hit a hard shot from mid-court? Why do shots down the line go out so much? Should I serve hard or slow? How can I become more consistent at serving and groundstrokes? Should I crowd the net or stay back and get ready for a lob?
This book finally gives answers to these perplexing questions.

Too much science and not enough tennis advice.

I did not read the entire book, but quickly reviewed it upon receiving it so please consider that my review is based on a quick glance. I anticipated the book would center on the lighter side of science and be aimed at helping the weekend tennis player make better on court decisions. It apperared to focus on tennis equipment with less information on science based strategy...although it did have some useful insights into the physical aspects of the game. It would have been a much better book if the information was presented from a tennis player's viewpoint with a little humor to lighten it up. Far too many graphs and charts when a good cartoon would have made the point much stand out much better.
