About the Author
H. Ward Silver has experienced a 20-year career as an electrical engineer developing instrumentation and medical electronics. He also spent 8 years in broadcasting, both programming and engineering. In 2000, he turned to teaching and writing as a second career, producing Ham Radios For Dummies in 2004. He supports Seattle University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in laboratory instruction. He is an avid Amateur Radio operator, Extra Class, first licensed in 1972. Each month, his columns and articles can be found in the national ham radio magazine, QST, published by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). He is the author of the ARRL’s online courses in Antenna Design and Construction, Analog Electronics, and Digital Electronics. When not in front of a computer screen, you will find him working on his mandolin technique and compositions.

For Dummies for me

The 4th or 5th book in the series of "for dummies" that I have purchased [not sure what that says about me]. If you have read a few of these books they follow the same basic theme - you're a dummy and don't know anything so lets start at the very beginning. Just what I was looking for! Now working on my HAM license but I had to start somewhere. Timely shipping, sufficient packing to arrive undamaged, and a reasonable price.

Outstanding overview for the novice or those even curious about radio

This book gives a very thorough overview of the world of radio. It discusses in detail the various radio systems in use and how to determine what radio fits your needs. There is a great deal of information on selecting radios for business use, as well as the expected discussion of Ham radio and the use of radios by government agencies and emergency services. The book can be a bit technical in some sections, but from cover to cover it provides a great overview for some interested in understanding a broad range of topics related to radios.

If you wonder what happened to CB Radios, what a HAM radio is or what a short-wave radio is, this is the book. Which works best in emergencies, or outdoors communications between groups like hunters. Licensing requirements and etiquette while using. Do people still call Breaker, Breaker?

About the Author

Jonathan K. Ehrman, PhD, FACSM, is the associate program director of preventive cardiology and director of the weight management program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He has a 27-year background in clinical exercise physiology and is certified as an ACSM clinical exercise specialist and program director. He previously served as the chair of the exercise specialist credentialing committee for ACSM.

Dr. Ehrman is author of more than 100 manuscripts and abstracts as well as four books and chapters. He was senior editor of the sixth edition of ACSM's Resource Manual for Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription. He is also the umbrella editor for the ACSM certification texts published in 2013. He is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine as well as a member of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the American Heart Association. Dr. Ehrman earned his PhD in clinical exercise physiology from The Ohio State University.

Paul M. Gordon, PhD, MPH, FACSM, is an ACSM clinical exercise specialist and director of the Laboratory for Physical Activity and Exercise Intervention Research in the School of Medicine at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He has 15 years of teaching experience in clinical exercise physiology curricula and has directed several cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs. Dr. Gordon has served as an examiner and coordinator for the ACSM exercise specialist certification and is a contributing author for the ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription.

Dr. Gordon is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, a fellow of the Centers for Disease Control Physical Activity Research Program, and a member of the National Institutes of Health Study Section. He earned his PhD in exercise physiology and an MPH in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Paul S. Visich, PhD, MPH, has more than 14 years of experience in clinical exercise physiology and is the director of the Human Performance Laboratory in the College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University. He worked 12 years in a clinical setting that included cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and primary disease prevention. His research interests involve the assessment of cardiovascular disease risk factors in children, the influence of resistance training in elderly populations, and altitude physiology.

Dr. Visich is a member of the Registered Clinical Exercise Physiology Committee and previous chair for the Professional Education Committee for the American College of Sports Medicine. He is the author of more than 70 published scientific articles and abstracts. He earned a PhD in exercise physiology and an MPH in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Steven J. Keteyian, PhD, FACSM, has more than 30 years of experience working as a clinical exercise physiologist. He is program director of preventive cardiology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Over the course of his career, Dr. Keteyian has focused on exercise and physical activity in both healthy individuals and those with chronic diseases. He is the author of more than 100 scientific articles and chapters in books as well as four textbooks.

Dr. Keteyian is a member of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the American Heart Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. He earned his PhD from Wayne State University in Detroit.

About the Author
Beverly Kracher, Ph.D. is a native Nebraskan and farmer's daughter. She earned a Ph.D. in philosophy at UNL. Beverly is the Robert B. Dougherty Endowed Chair in Business Ethics & Society at Creighton University's College of Business. She has been a professor at Creighton University for 20 years. She does business ethics consulting with local and national firms. Her articles can be found in academic journals and business magazines. Beverly was a research fellow at the Center for International Business Ethics in Beijing, China in 2007 and has returned to China almost every year since then. Beverly's business experience is a vice-president of an Omaha-based small business. Since 2008, she has also been executive director and president of the Business Ethics Alliance (businessethicsalliance.org), a nonprofit that leads in developing a climate of ethical excellence in the Omaha business community and serves as a beacon for other business communities around the nation and the world. Through the Business Ethics Alliance, she has co-written a series of practical organizational ethics workbooks. Beverly hikes, jogs, reads and goes to baseball games with Jerry.
Jerry Stegeman is a native Nebraskan from Scottsbluff. He earned a BA in philosophy at UNL. He founded and has been CEO of Plant Pros of Omaha, Inc., an Omaha-based interior plantscaping firm, since 1996. An associated benefit of the business has been as a laboratory for understanding and using ethics in the workplace. Jerry likes hiking, music, and loves baseball.

Practical Tool for Ethical Conversations

The Ethinary is a practical tool, intentionally accessible. The disgruntled previous reviewer, Caldwell, unfortunately misses the point. The beauty is in the simplicity. While the authors have expertise and experience in the most theoretical of ethical thinking, writing and interacting, the purpose of The Ethinary [an ethics dictionary] is to spark everyday ethical conversation.

I'm familiar with executives who leave the book on end tables in their lobbies for guests to thumb through, and others who select one ethical term to discuss at regular staff meetings. If you're looking for a tool to facilitate practical thinking and interacting at a higher ethical level, this is one that works from the executive suite to the manufacturing plant floor.

Not Worth The Money

Did a 2nd Grade student write this book? Seriously, I don't know how a person with a Ph.D. and another one with a B.A. could put their names on this drivel. I guess the reason they have these degrees is because they learned how to bilk people out of a lot of money.

Don't waste your money on this garbage. My company Ethics Committee spent thousands of dollars to get everybody their own copy. What an incredible waste of money. Of course, my company is in Nebraska and the writers of the book are also from Nebraska. Coincidence? I don't think so.

I loved it! Saroyan skillfully brings each character alive in the book. Although, there are not many exciting events happening in the story, but Saroyan still manages to captivate the reader. Yes, indeed, he makes you feel that you live among those young boys and like them, you have to struggle in order to cope with your life. Besides, among all the current bestsellers that one reads, it is very enrlightening to read a classical book such as the Human Comedy.

See The Movie Too

Saroyan's THE HUMAN COMEDY is a highly patriotic, highly sentimental, vintage war-time narrative: it gently treats, in part, the tragic telegrams from the War Department that far too many American families received during the WW 2 period. The writing is particularly strong in the final third of the novel. One can easily see why it was so popular, even comforting, to the then contemporary readers.

As suggested in my title, the Mickey Rooney movie is a fitting complement to the book, as well as showcasing what a fine actor Mickey Rooney was.

Relevant, simple, heartfelt!

Having read the Armenian translation, I was glad to finally sit down with the original. And what a difference! Although the translation was wonderful in its own way and I had enjoyed the book very much, but there is something to be said for the language Saroyan uses: so simple, yet so profound. The story is still relevant today with so many young soldiers going to war and with families left behind to take care of themselves. How do you grow as a family when the war has taken so much from you including your teenager's childhood? Having a teenager myself, I can't even imagine what the main character is exposed to because he has to support his family. It's a perfectly suitable read for almost all ages. Don't postpone enjoying this masterpiece.

I recomend this book, Here you can see a lot of coil shapes design,tips and data for differents heating situations, circuitry and electronics refered to induction heating, equipment, etc. Very good edition work.

induction heating coils

If your building a induction heating coil, this book is for you. It has great tips on building your induction coil. I used the book to rebuild a induction coil that I use to seal bottles. I rebuilt our induction head so that it could take 110 mm caps with a wider induction field. Book is well worth the value if you want to use the calulations.
